Who's Business Are You Minding?

Elmes, Willard Frederic poster: One Iron In The Fire (Mather Work Incentive)

You go to work—You mind your employer’s business.
You pay your tithes (hopefully)—You mind God’s business.
You give an offering (hopefully)—You mind your church’s business.
You pay your mortgage—You mind your bank’s business.
You pay your bills—You mind your creditor’s business.
You give to your friends (both time & money)—You mind your friend’s business
.

How much time do you spend on your priorities?
How much time have you spent planning out your
future?
How much energy do you devote to manifesting your
 dreams?
How much time do you spend minding your
 business?

Now, I AM NOT referring to being so overly concerned with yourself to the extent that you forget about others (that’s arrogance).  However, I AM referring to being so overly concerned with others to the extent that you forget about yourself (that’s ignorance).

Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him [Jesus] a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it , Thou shalt love thy neighbour AS THYSELF. On these two commandments hang ALL the law and the prophets.
- Matthew 22: 35-40 KJV Bible (caps added by yours truly)

Having a healthy respect for who you are and placing yourself as a priority on your own list is NOT A SIN. When you are at your best, you become more effective in serving others.  Remember, time is a precious: once it's spent, you can't get it back!! In other words….MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!!!

Just thought I’d mention it :-)

Budgeting is SUCH A PAIN in the (you know what)!!!

Elmes, Willard Frederic poster: Ready to Spring! (Mather Work Incentive)

Or, at the very least, that’s how I felt when I first started. I learned some pretty painful things about myself….I saw how disorganized my financial life TRULY was. Seven copies of one bill over here, four copies of another bill over there and NO IDEA about how much money (i.e. “stupid tax”) I was shelling out every month, especially in banking fees. One thing that you come to realize is that while major things can hurt you, it’s the small ones that can really kill you—if you choose not to pay attention.

Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines…
– Song of Solomon 2:15 KJV Bible

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
-- Proverbs 27:23 KJV Bible

After a long process of hunting down my bills, organizing/filing them, working out a budget & devising a pay-off plan (debt snowball for fellow Dave Ramsey fans) I now have PEACE OF MIND. The type of peace that can occur only when you know exactly how much is coming/going out every month.

I’ve since come to realize that God is just as concerned with how I handle ‘my’ finances as He is with how I handle every other aspect of my Christian walk.

If the concept of budgeting is completely foreign to you, I highly suggest that you attend Financial Peace University—offered online at www.daveramsey.com….you will love it!

Lastly, for all of you fellow FPU grads reading this & you haven’t done the “dreaded” budget yet, then for your own sake, get up right now and get the following: tissues (you may shed a tear or two), pen, paper, find ALL of your bills, your FPU workbook and GET TO IT! NOW!

MY CREED
(adapted from the original version by Dean Alfange)
I do not choose to be a common man.
It is my right to be uncommon.
I seek opportunity, not security.
I will not be a kept citizen,
humbled and dulled by having the state look after me.
I will take the calculated risk,
to dream and to build,
to fail and to succeed.
I refuse to barter incentive for a dole.
I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence;
the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia.
I will not trade freedom for beneficence
nor my dignity for a handout.
I will never cower before any earthly master
nor bend to any threat.
It is my heritage
to stand erect, proud and unafraid,
to think and to act for myself,
to enjoy the benefit of my creations
and to face the world boldly and say-
"This, with God's help, I have done."
